I originally trained as a primary teacher and practised in state-maintained schools for 13 years. During that time, I was a SENCo, a Head of Infants and an Acting Head. With a burgeoning interest in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), I took time out to train as a SEND, English as an Additional Language (EAL) and assessment specialist and went on to teach (age 8 to adult) and to train teachers for the Dyslexia Institute in London.
I moved into the independent school sector in 1999, teaching, assessing and working as SENCo at senior schools in South-West London.
I retired from full-time work in the Summer of 2022 and now work as a freelance specialist assessor. I am the approved specialist assessor for a school, carrying out access arrangements and full diagnostic assessments, and I provide consultancy and staff training on SEND for schools.
I am also registered as a study skills coach for university students and as a mentor for dyslexic individuals in the workplace.
I am Mum to two young adults and am proud to be a member of a very neurodivergent family!
